Personal Data Collected and What It’s Used For

Website Visitation

Basic access logs, including your IP address, are tracked on the hosting server. These access logs are stored in a database in order to check for and block IP addresses attempting to hack or otherwise abuse our site. The administrator passwords for this site are changed regularly — as well as admin access being locked behind Two Factor Authentication (2FA) protocols to help ensure data remains reasonably secure.


When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.


If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Currently, visitors are not able to upload media to the site.

Contact forms

Data submitted through contact forms may be saved on our website, Google Sheets, Airtable, and additionally sent via email. This process helps ensure messages and cancelation requests are not lost due to an error with email sending or other such issues.

Email newsletter and transactional notifications

If you make a purchase (subscription or one-time), the email you provide will be used to send transactional emails – such as receipts of purchase and account information. Since only essential transactional emails are sent, these are not able to be opted out of. The email you used when you created your account will be used for this purpose.

If you opt-in or otherwise sign up to the email list (an associated brand of Anne Dorko), this information is stored with ConvertKit. Marketing emails (general newsletters, podcast episodes, updates, sales announcements, and so on) will all have a link for you to unsubscribe at the bottom. You can choose to unsubscribe from specific emails or unsubscribe from all future marketing emails at any time.


If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Who we share your data with

Nobody. This information is for the use of Anne Dorko exclusively. We do not sell or pass off any of your data to third parties. Analytics data is not tracked in association with your personally identifiable data.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments along with their associated information (such as email address) may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Your contact information

By default, your contact information is only used to contact you in regards to your account and chosen level of subscription. You will also receive emails from Stripe on our behalf as receipts upon billing.

You may be provided with the option to offer additional data such as mailing address (for physical rewards) or to opt-in to email newsletters or other similar transactions.

How we protect your data

Data is stored on secure servers behind strong and regularly changed passwords, with 2FA security in place wherever possible. This site uses additional measures to prevent compromises, including IP lockouts, audit logging, regular file scans for known insecurities, disabling of features with known security weaknesses, limited login access time, regular software updates, and many other measures.

What data breach procedures we have in place

If it should occur that customer data is lost, stolen, or otherwise compromised, we will contact our customers by email within 48 hours of discovering the breach. The incident will be reported to any necessary data protection authorities. We will work with any impacted customers closely to determine the next steps, as well as put in place measures to avoid similar events in the future.

What third parties we receive data from

This site manages payments through Stripe billing and PayPal. Please view their respective privacy policies if you have any concerns.

What automated decision making and/or profiling we do with user data

Transactional emails may be automated for confirmation of billing, or similar.
